These are some of the most commonly asked questions by test-takers:
How long does connecting to a proctor take?
For exams with a live proctor the connection process will typically take up to 2 minutes. During times of high exam volume you may experience longer wait times.
Can I have children with me?
Young children can be present during your exam, but interruptions or interference in the testing process may result in the proctor terminating your session.
Can I have pets with me?
As long as they don't help with your exam, your pets are welcome to join you.
Does my exam begin when I connect to the ProctorU Platform?
No, the timer for your exam does not start until the exam itself has been opened. The time spent showing your ID, verifying your identity and securing your testing space does not count toward your exam time.
Depending on whether a live proctor is launching your exam or not, you should expect your start process to take anywhere from 3 minutes for an un-proctored launch to 12 minutes for a proctored launch.
Are breaks allowed during my exam?
This varies by exam and is set by your instructor, exam administrator, institution, or organization policy, not by the ProctorU Platform or Meazure Learning employees. You will be notified if any breaks are allowed and how many you can take while going through the rules of the exam during the launch process.
For clarification on breaks, we recommend speaking with your instructor or exam administrator.
How do I access my exam results?
ProctorU does not store or have the ability to view your exam results. Your grade may be stored inside your Learning Management System (LMS) or Test Delivery Platform. Alternatively, we suggest reaching out to your institution, organization, instructor, or exam administrator directly regarding your results.
Will the proctor be able to access my personal computer files and documents without my knowledge?
No, our proctors cannot access your computer files without your knowledge. Everything they do will be shown on your screen and they cannot perform "hidden" actions. This access is only granted with your explicit permission and after you've clicked a button to confirm.
Proctors have the ability to view the screen and utilize the mouse and keyboard as if they were sitting next to you. Once the exam starts, your proctor will monitor everything on the computer screen, but can no longer utilize your mouse and keyboard.
During the entire process, a chat box is running on your computer and you can see what permissions the proctor currently has at any time. The entire chat session log is saved, including a permanent record of what actions the proctor took while accessing your computer.
Is there anywhere I'm not allowed to take a test?
To ensure security across exams, there are some types of locations that you will not be permitted to test from (unless your testing organization has provided ProctorU with an accommodation request). This may vary depending on the type of exam you are taking.
Generally, you will NOT be permitted to test from:
- The bathroom/restroom
- The floor
- Public areas with other individuals like coffee shops
- The outdoors
If you're taking a certification, credentialing, or licensure exam for a professional organization, you will NOT be permitted to test from:
- A bed
- A couch
- An automobile
- A room with clear glass walls
You should be seated at a hard surface like a desk or table, and preferably with your back to the main room entrance. Standing desks will not be permitted.
I've been disconnected from my exam
If you are disconnected from an active exam session don't worry, you can still reconnect to your proctor and exam. Just follow the on screen prompts to get reconnected. If guardian or your browser closed then we recommend re entering the exam using the same page or process you used to first access it. You will be prompted to go through the exam launch and security process again and you will be reconnected to your exam once you have completed it.
We recommend returning to your exam immediately, if you do not return to your exam within 5 minutes your exam may be ended.
If you are experiencing technical issues or are unable to turn to your exam we suggest reaching out to support using the support chat in the ProctorU platform or by following this link.
