Checklist:
Make sure you’re fully prepared for your exam using a secondary camera mobile device. Here is a checklist of what you’ll need prior to starting your exam.
- Proper exam environment with space for the proper second camera angle.
- Power source for the mobile device. (A charging block is allowed if an outlet is not within reach.)
- Second camera device stand or props.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection and connect your second camera device to the same WiFi as your testing workstation.
- Landscape mode enabled. Position second camera device horizontally in landscape mode (orientation lock disabled – iOS) (auto-rotate enabled – Android).
- Device set to Do Not Disturb.
Second Camera Set-Up – Helpful Hints
Second Camera Device
We've found any mobile device with a front-facing camera that can connect to a web browser should be able to be used as a second camera. This includes mobile phones and tablets. Laptop computers are not allowed.
Environment
You’ll need to decide where you will take your exam. If your organization requires a second camera device, you’ll need to set up your space to get the proper view from the second camera.
The second camera device will capture your profile with your hands and face visible. Information on your testing workstation monitor should not be captured.
Second Camera Device Placement
Typically, the second camera device should be 2’ to 3’ (0.7-1.0 meters) away. This may vary depending on the aspect ratio of your second camera device. If your testing workstation surface is not large enough to accommodate your second camera device, we recommend positioning yourself near a surface like a shelf that can hold your second camera device or you can use a side table or stool.
Power Source
Consider access to a power source when you determine your workspace. Your device will need to record continuously throughout your exam session. To maintain connectivity, your second camera device should be plugged into a power source. A charging bank can be used if an electrical outlet is not available. If your second camera device is disconnected during the exam and you are unable to reconnect, your exam may be terminated.
Stabilizing Props
You’ll need to stabilize your second camera mobile device with a tri-pod stand or sturdy item. Most household items such as a mug or cup can be used. Books are not permitted.
Connecting
You will connect by scanning a QR code – there is nothing to download to your mobile device.
If your device does not have the capacity to connect to a QR code, you can connect by entering a URL into the browser of your second camera mobile device.
Follow the prompt on your second camera device to allow access to the microphone and camera.
To maintain a stable connection, make sure your mobile device is connected to the same WiFi as your testing workstation and enable Do Not Disturb so that your exam session is not interrupted.
Unlock your second camera mobile device orientation to enable landscape view.
